Creative Mornings Dallas June Poster

Thank you to Creative Mornings Dallas for asking me to design the poster for this month’s topic: Wonder. Rather than attempting to create a poster that visually evoked the quality of “wonder,” I wanted to poke fun at the inherent conflict of companies expecting creatives to develop wondrous experiences within non-wondrous contexts. In my poster, a memo shows God has tasked his art director with designing the universe using a creative brief for inspiration. My goal with the poster is for working creatives to question the constraints and structures we are forced to work within, and if nothing else, provide reassurance that everyone must grapple with bureaucracy, even those in heaven.

The copy on the poster’s memo is as follows:

Date: Day 1

FROM: The Creator
TO: Art Director
SUBJECT: Design the Universe

Please see the full details for the Creative Brief included below. Need ASAP.

PROJECT BACKGROUND
Currently everything is a dark void. This needs to be remedied immediately.

WHAT IS THE OBJECTIVE?
Create form from nothing, bring light to the dark, create a world of wonder and beauty for life to flourish.

WHO IS THE TARGET AUDIENCE?
Human beings, males and females between 0 and 100 years old. They eat food for sustenance, sleep to regain energy, copulate to propagate their species, and are generally fickle in nature.

WHAT IS THE “REASON TO BELIEVE?”
I am the Alpha and the Omega, first and the last, the beginning and the end.

TONE OF VOICE
Authoritative, Confident, and Inspiring

MANDATORY ELEMENTS
There are no existing brand constraints.
